Client’s Requirement – Monitoring Classic Vehicles Without a Constant Power Source
Kooperativa defined a requirement for the monitoring of classic vehicles, also known as vintage cars. A key condition was that the monitoring unit should not require a connection to a car battery and should be able to function for up to six months on a single charge in these vehicles.
In addition to location tracking, a crucial requirement was measuring the mileage of the vehicle to ensure adherence to predefined limits. Furthermore, security functions were needed, such as detecting vehicle towing, and potential accidents, where the unit must contact Kooperativa’s assistance center.
Xmarton’s Optimization of the Original Requirement – Integration, Automation, and Additional Monitoring Features
During the initial analysis, we expanded the requirement to include monitoring of temperature and humidity conditions in which the vehicle is stored. Since classic cars are often parked for long months during the off-season, it is crucial to monitor their storage conditions. Excessive humidity can cause mold, while excessively low humidity can lead to cracking of soft plastics and leather. High temperatures may indicate the risk of fire, and extremely low temperatures, combined with humidity, can affect various vehicle components.
For this reason, we added environmental monitoring, where any deviation from the permitted range triggers an alarm and sends a notification to the vehicle owner.
Challenges – Integration with Kooperativa’s Internal Systems, Automation for Notifications, and Developing a Lightweight, Long-Life Unit
Integrating with Kooperativa’s internal systems required the involvement of data architects and collaboration at the IT security level. Since the system handles relatively sensitive data, it was necessary to create a new integration interface on both the Xmarton and Kooperativa sides.
Data exchange was implemented in two directions:
From Kooperativa to Xmarton – including information about insurance contracts, cancellations, and modifications, which automatically triggers customer contact for unit delivery arrangements.
From Xmarton to Kooperativa – providing data on vehicle mileage and security incidents for the assistance center.
Benefits of the Kooperativa and Xmarton Collaboration
